Guatamala… tot voorkort geen flauw idee dat dit, toch niet heel klein landje, in centraal Amerika ligt. Wat weten we wel van Guatamala? Tis rete veel goedkoper dat Belize. Dus, met enige peper-in-de-reet, gevlucht uit Belize samen met een zwitsers stelletje. T Was als het ware een dubble-date.
Na weer afgezet te zijn bij de grens, twee lekker taxibanden en 5 uur van onze kostbare tijd kwamen wij aan in Santa Elena/Flores. 
Na een leuke avond aan het water (Flores is een schiereiland) besloot Peter om 3 dagen ziek te worden. Na een bezoekje aan iets wat zichzelf huisarts durft te noemen, veel slapen en twee dikke anti-boitica spuiten (im aars) was Peters brakke lichaam weer in staat om een aantal uren in de bus te zitten. Auke was na 3 dagen ook wel klaar met het eiland (100 bij 100 meter).
De volgende hotspot die wij vereerden met ons beozek was Antigua. Bij aankomst heeft Peter even mam Philips gefeliciteerd. Toevallig konden we een uur later mee met een tocht naar de vukaan Pacaya. Deze vulkaan is nog steeds actief.
In bepaalde stukken is het loeiheet en zie je Lava stromen.Heel vet!
Na nog een dag chillenmet de nodige drankjes waren wij ¨cultuur barbaren¨ wel weer verveeld in dit historische dorpje. Ook hier was het laagseizoen nog volop in gang, waardoor de discotheken slechts gevuld zijn met een klein aantal locals. Met andere woorden: Vamos a la playa!: El Salvador here we come!
El Salvador staat bekend om zijn guns, oud- guerillas en zijn surfstranden, drie dingen waar wij eigenlijk niets mee hebben. We ons daarom ook als luite Nederlanders gedragen, wat ons uitermate goed beviel. Auke heeft samen met een Japanner een poging gedaan om op een board te blijven staan met als resultaat; een reddingsactie van zichzelf, de Japanner en een te dikke verzuipende local. Geen aanrader! Bijkomend voordeel de dankbaarheid van die local die ons biertjes aanbood. 
Diezelfde avond werden we vergezeld door een te rijke Colombiaan, die maar bleef betalen voor de live verzoek nummertjes en tevens het vrouwelijk schoon. Na een tijdje bleek het saldo niet toereikend waardoor de blanke billetjes van Auke een goedkopere oplossing leken. Helaas liefde moet van twee kanten komen. Na veel luieren, een poging tot vissen inLa Libertad (met ons eigen gereedschap) zijn we vertrokken naar de hoofdstad, San Salvador.
San Salvador: lelijk, vies, druk, rommel, bussen die spontaan omkeren, kortom weg hier! ´s nachts de bus naar Nicaragua! Zoals iedereen weet is in Honduras alles Harrie-in-de-warrie, dus ook twee keer de grens overgang. Lang wachten en overstappen op andere bussen. na 12uur van reizen kwamen we ook heerlijk aan in León, Nicaragua. Een lekker levend stadje dat niet alleen leeft van het uitbuiten van toeristen. Op moment van schrijven van dit stukje zitten we er nog steeds (6 dagen later). Behalve veel eten, onze biertjes drinken en relaxen, hebben we ook een fantastische 2daagse hike tocht gedaan. De eerste dag bestond uit 10 uur lopen naar twee vulkanen, Cerro Negro en El Hoyo. Cerro Negro rookte er nog flink op los. ¿Wisten jullie dat zwavel ruikt naar rotte eieren? Cerro Negro wordt ook wel de zwarte woestijn genoemd (zie pics). Het duurde twee uur om boven te komen, naar beneden was echter maar 10 minuten, omdat we het rennend door vulkaan gruis deden. Heeeeel vet! De tweede vulkaan was meer begroeid, maar niet minder zwaar. 
Op de berg aangekomen en hebben we genoten van het uitzicht op het meer Managua en hebben we de tenten opgezet in een krater.
De tweede dag begon iets minder leuk voor Auke. Spetter de spetter was back in de game. Wat niet handig is bij een 4 uur durende afdaling naar een kratermeer, Assososca. Gelukkig werkte de diarree-remmers die na vier keer spetteren en twee heeeeuuul lange uren! Na twee dagen vies zweten was de verkoeling van het meertje meer dan welkom. ´s avonds voor het eerst ECHT op stap geweest met wat Duitsers, een Colombiaan, Zwitsers, Australische en twee locals, erg leuk!!
We eindigen zoals gewoonlijk met een spreuk;
